Page Engine Oil A. Windshield Washer Fluid. Engine Coolant Recovery Tank. See Engine Coolant on page Power Steering Fluid Reservoir low in engine compartment. But you must use the right kind. This section explains what kind of oil to use. Both will provide easier cold starting and better protection for your engine at extremely low temperatures. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. See Engine Compartment Overview on page for more information on location.
Push it back in all the way, wait three seconds and then pull it back out again. Check both sides of the dipstick, and read the lower level. How to Check Because this operation can be a little difficult, you may choose to have this done at your GM dealership service department. See Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page If you use this coolant mixture, you do not need to add anything else. The vehicle must be on a level surface. Page Radiator Pressure Cap Radiator Pressure Cap Notice: If the pressure cap is not tightly installed, coolant loss and possible engine damage may occur.
Be sure the cap is properly and tightly secured. Coolant Recovery Tank B. Engine Cooling Fan C. Radiator Pressure Cap If the coolant inside the coolant recovery tank is boiling, do not do anything else until it cools down. Do not touch them. If you do, you can be burned. Do not run the engine if there is a leak. If you run the engine, it could lose all coolant. Page Notice: In cold weather, water can freeze and crack the engine, radiator, heater core and other parts.
Use the recommended coolant and the proper coolant mixture. Coolant contains ethylene glycol and it will burn if the engine parts are hot enough. You can remove the radiator pressure cap when the cooling system, including the upper radiator hose, is no longer hot. Turn the pressure cap slowly counterclockwise about one full turn. If you hear a hiss, wait for that to stop. A hiss means there is still some pressure left.
Page Engine Fan Noise 6. Start the engine and let it run until you can feel the upper radiator hose getting hot. Watch out for the engine cooling fan. See Engine Compartment Overview on page for reservoir location.

Its many parts have to be of top quality and work well together if the vehicle is to have really good braking. Be sure to use the following steps to do it safely.

Page Notice: If the jumper cables are connected or removed in the wrong order, electrical shorting may occur and damage the vehicle. Always connect and remove the jumper cables in the correct order, making sure that the cables do not touch each other or other metal.
Have it inspected and repaired. How to Check Lubricant To get an accurate reading, the vehicle should be on a level surface. Page Front Axle A. Drain Plug B. High-Beam Headlamp To replace the headlamp bulbs, do the following: 1. Open the hood. See Hood Release on page for more information.
Reach in and access the bulb sockets from inside the engine compartment. Remove the four retainer screws and the retainer. Pull the headlamp capsule toward you and unplug the electrical connector from it. Remove the old headlamp capsule. Remove the two screws and lift off the lamp assembly.
Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and remove it from the housing. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Page Replacement Bulbs 2. Remove the two rear lamp assembly screws near the tailgate latch. Pull out the lamp assembly.
Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the taillamp housing. Pull the old bulb straight out from the socket. See Scheduled Maintenance on page for more information. Replacement blades come in different types and are removed in different ways. For proper type and length, see Normal Maintenance Replacement Parts on page To install the new wiper insert, slide the insert D , notched end last, into the end with two blade claws A. Slide the insert all the way through the blade claws at the opposite end B.
The plastic caps C will be forced off as the insert is fully inserted. Page Tires Tires Your new vehicle comes with high-quality tires made by a leading tire manufacturer. The examples below show a typical passenger vehicle tire and a compact spare tire sidewall. Page Belt: A rubber coated layer of cords that is located between the plies and the tread.
Cords may be made from steel or other reinforcing materials. Bead: The tire bead contains steel wires wrapped by steel cords that hold the tire onto the rim. Bias Ply Tire: A pneumatic tire in which the plies are laid at alternate angles less than 90 degrees to the centerline of the tread.
Page Occupant Distribution: Designated seating positions. Outward Facing Sidewall: The side of an asymmetrical tire that has a particular side that faces outward when mounted on a vehicle. It is not. For example, a tire graded would wear one and a half 1.
Page Wheel Alignment And Tire Balance Wheel Alignment and Tire Balance The tires and wheels on your vehicle were aligned and balanced carefully at the factory to give you the longest tire life and best overall performance. Adjustments to wheel alignment and tire balancing will not be necessary on a regular basis. However, if you notice unusual tire wear or your vehicle pulling to one side or the other, the alignment may need to be checked.
It could affect the braking and handling of your vehicle, make your tires lose air and make you lose control. You could have a collision in which you or others could be injured. They can damage your vehicle because there is not enough clearance. Tire chains used on a vehicle without the proper amount of clearance can cause damage to the brakes, suspension or other vehicle parts. If air goes out of a tire, it is much more likely to leak out slowly.
See Hazard Warning Flashers on page for more information. The vehicle can slip off the jack and roll over or fall on you or other people. The following information will tell you next how to use the jack and change a tire. Page For regular and extended cab vehicles, the jack and wheel blocks are located under the cover at the center of the vehicle behind the front seats. Put the wheel blocks at the front and rear of the tire farthest away from the one being changed.
That would be the tire on the other side, at the opposite end of the vehicle. Turn the wheel wrench D counterclockwise to lower the spare tire to the ground. Continue to turn the wheel wrench until the spare tire can be pulled out from under the vehicle.
If the spare tire does not lower to the ground, the secondary latch is engaged causing the tire not to lower. Page 1. Remove the center cap by placing the chisel end of the wheel wrench E into one of the slots on the wheel and gently prying the cap out. If your vehicle has the Xtreme package, remove each wheel nut cap with the wheel wrench and remove the center cap by hand.
If the vehicle slips off the jack you could be badly injured or killed. Never get under a vehicle when it is supported only by a jack. The wheel could come off and cause an accident. Page 9. Put the wheel nuts back on with the rounded end of the nuts toward the wheel. Tighten each wheel nut by hand. Then use the wheel wrench to tighten the nuts until the wheel is held against the hub. Rear Position This could lead to an accident.
Be sure to use the correct wheel nuts. If you have to replace them, be sure to get new GM original equipment wheel nuts. Page Secondary Latch System Secondary Latch System Your vehicle has an underbody-mounted tire hoist assembly equipped with a secondary latch system. It is designed to stop the spare tire from suddenly falling off your vehicle. For the secondary latch to work, the spare must be installed with the valve stem pointing down. Page 5. Turn the wrench counterclockwise until approximately 6 inches 15 cm of cable is exposed.
Stand the wheel blocks on their shortest ends, with the backs facing each other. Place the bottom edge of the jack A on the wheel blocks B , separating them so that the jack is balanced Page Remove the jack handle and insert the hoist end of the extension through the hole in the rear bumper. Turn the wheel counterclockwise one turn or until the wheel retainer assembly falls out. Reinsert the jack handle into the jack.
Lower the jack by turning the wheel wrench counterclockwise. Tilt the tire retainer at the end of the cable and pull it through the wheel opening. Pull the tire out from under the vehicle. If the cable is hanging under the vehicle, turn the wheel wrench clockwise to raise the cable back up.
Have the hoist assembly inspected as soon as you can. Page Store the tire under the rear of the vehicle in the spare tire carrier. Use the following art and text to help you. Put the tire on the ground at the rear of the vehicle with the valve stem pointed down.
Insert the hoist end through the hole in the rear bumper and into the funnel-shaped guide. Turn the wheel wrench clockwise to raise the tire part way up. Make sure the retainer is seated in the wheel opening and the valve stem is pointed down. Page To store the tools, do the following: 1. Return the wheel wrench, jack extensions and the storage bag to the locations described under Removing the Spare Tire and Tools on page Then install the jack.
It should be 60 psi kPa. Notice: If your vehicle has four-wheel drive and the compact spare tire is installed on your vehicle, do not drive in four-wheel drive until you can have Page Appearance Care This spare was developed for use on your vehicle, so it is all right to drive on it. If your vehicle has four-wheel drive and the different size spare tire is installed, keep the vehicle in two-wheel drive. Permanent damage may result from using cleaners on surfaces for which they were not intended.
Use glass cleaner only on glass. Remove any accidental over-spray from other surfaces immediately. To prevent over-spray, apply cleaner directly to the cleaning cloth. Page Leather Leather A soft cloth dampened with water may be used to remove dust. If a more thorough cleaning is necessary, a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap solution can be used. Allow the leather to dry naturally. Do not use heat to dry. If you do, it may severely weaken them.
In a crash, they might not be able to provide adequate protection. Clean safety belts only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Follow instructions under Washing Your Vehicle on page Page Windshield And Wiper Blades Windshield and Wiper Blades If the windshield is not clear after using the windshield washer, or if the wiper blade chatters when running, wax, sap, or other material may be on the blade or windshield. Clean the outside of the windshield with a glass cleaning liquid or powder and water solution.
Page Tires Tires To clean the tires, use a stiff brush with tire cleaner. When applying a tire dressing, always wipe off any overspray from all painted surfaces on your vehicle. Tar and Road Oil Removes tar, road oil, Remover and asphalt. Chrome Cleaner Use on chrome or and Polish stainless steel. White Sidewall Removes soil and black Tire Cleaner marks from whitewalls.
You can see it if you look through the windshield from outside your vehicle. Some add-on electrical equipment can keep other components from working as they should. Page Fuses And Circuit Breakers Fuses and Circuit Breakers The wiring circuits in your vehicle are protected from short circuits by a combination of fuses and circuit breakers. Look at the silver-colored band inside the fuse. If the band is broken or melted, replace the fuse.
